Linen Care Guide

Washing:

  • Always pre-wash linens before first use.
  • Always check the care label before washing, and separate linens into light and dark colors.
  • For the first wash, we’d recommend washing in lukewarm water or machine washing at a temperature 30°c or below 40°c. The washing temperature should be low enough to protect your linens from heat damage and shrinkage, but not so cold that it shocks the delicate natural fibers.
  • For bed Linens, use warm or cold water. For table and bath linens, use hot water for whites and cold water for colors.
  • We suggest washing together with similar colors and weights, and keeping the load light to allow the linens to move freely. This will help reduce friction and rubbing, plus they’ll come out less wrinkly.
  • Use a mild liquid detergent without added bleach, whiteners or fabric softeners.
  • Dry your linen item following the tips below. Don’t be tempted to wring it out as this can stretch the fabric.

 Drying:

Air Drying (Recommended)

  • Air drying is best, hanging in the shade or lying flat to avoid shrinking and fading.
  • Dry in the shade or indoors to prevent colored linens from fading; sunlight can affect the color shade.
  • To prevent creases, shake the item before drying.
  • Whites can benefit from a little sun, but darker colors should stay out of direct sun.

Tumble Drying:

  • If using a dryer, use low heat and remove while slightly damp to finish air drying.
  • AvoidOver drying: High heat makes linen brittle and stiff.
  • Linen is quick drying, so tumble dry only for as long as it needs.

  Ironing:

Always check to make sure your steam iron is clean.

  • If you wish to iron out those characteristic creases from your natural linen fabrics or textiles, the best time to do so is just before they’re completely dry.
  • Set your iron to a medium heat setting and use the steam function generously.
  • Spray with water from a spray bottle from a stubborn wrinkle, if needed.
  • Always press linen on the reverse side to prevent unwanted shine or marks on the fabric’s surface.
  • Work along the fabric’s grain for smoother results and to avoid distorting the weave.
  • If you do need to iron your delicate linen item, use a pressing cloth to protect the fabric from direct heat. Iron the item on the lowest heat setting and avoid ironing over any embellishments or delicate areas.

 Stain Removal Tips:

  • Blot, Don’t Rub: Gently blot fresh stains with a clean cloth to absorb excess liquid; don’t rub. Rinse from the back of the fabric with cold water to push the stain out.
  • StubbornStains: Make a paste with baking soda and water or use a mix of baking soda and vinegar; let it sit for 30 mins.
  • RedWine/Juice: Cover with salt immediately to absorb, then rinse with cold water.

After pre-treatment, wash the item as usual, following the general care guidelines.

  • RepeatifNeeded: Don’t put stained items in the dryer; repeat steps until the stain is gone.
  • For any new stains, we’d recommend soaking your linen item in cool or lukewarm, water before washing, to help prevent them from setting fast into the fabric.

Additional Information;

  • We do not recommend dry cleaning for our natural cotton and linen products.
  • Do not wash or especially dry linens on a hot setting, which is most likely to cause over shrinkage.
  • Follow instructions on the care label.
  • If you follow the linen washing and drying advice above, you shouldn’t need to do anything specialist to prevent your linens from shrinking.
